With ICE’s assistance, the Coalition has worked since 2004 to develop a new model for delivering community mental health services tailored to local community needs for poor and vulnerable local residents.

RESULTS:

  • The Kedzie Center, 4141 N. Kedzie Ave., opened as the first new Expanded Mental Health Services Program clinic in October 2014—today it provides affordable services to residents seeking care in the Albany Park, Irving Park, North Park and Forest Glen communities.

  • The West Side Expanded Mental Health Services Program received the support of 86.5% of the voters on the November 2016 ballot in the North Lawndale, East and West Garfield Park, and Near West Side communities. A Governing Commission consisting of community leaders, mental health consumers, and clinicians is poised to select a mental health services provider and open the new west side mental health center in 2019.

  • Residents on the Northwest side approved on November 6, 2018 with a 85.8% vote of 40,330 residents the creation of Chicago’s third new center - the Logan Square, Avondale, and Hermosa Expanded Mental Health Services Program.
